Facing the Opioid Crisis (CE: 1.0)

Description:

The opioid epidemic has gotten national attention, and for good reason. Each day more than 130 people will die from an opioid overdose. We will discuss the origins of addiction and trends in currently used substances. We will talk about how prevention and treatment programs are addressing the crisis. The problem did not emerge overnight, and it will not be resolved overnight, and so all of us need to know our role in reducing the epidemic and being an intentional part of the solution.

Learning Objectives:

  • Detail the current state of the opioid crisis in the United States.
  • Define addiction and the physiological processes associated with addiction.
  • Discuss treatment and recovery options for patients with opioid addiction.
