Description:
In
this course, the presenter discusses how the world has moved into the
post-antibiotic era with an increasing number of multidrug resistant (MDR)
bacterial infections. Also discussed is how the CDC estimates two million
people are infected by antibiotic resistant pathogens which have seen a steady
increase in hospital and health care associated surveillance studies.
Additionally, various strategies to identify new classes of antibiotics are
under development while further strategies aim to repurpose existing compounds for
use as antimicrobials is presented.
