2023AM: Creating Dynamic Learning Environments in Laboratory Sciences (CE: 1.0)
Description:
This session will provide an overview of the Interactive Lecturing Model that was designed by educators Barkley and Major. With the goal of creating dynamic learning environments that support students’ understanding, processing, application, and retention of learned information, this model combines engaged presentations with periods of active learning. Attendees will learn about structuring learning sessions and creating handouts and other supplements, techniques for generating enthusiasm and interest, the importance of asking and answering questions, and several active learning techniques that can be integrated into any lecture. By implementing interactive lectures, attendees will be able to create effective lessons where students are active participants before, during, and after each lecture.
Learning Objectives:
- Intentionally structure learning sessions and generate learner enthusiasm and interest to improve engagement and motivation.
- Integrate lectures with active learning to aid students in achieving deep learning.
- Create engaged presentations to ensure students are active participants throughout the learning process.
