2013AM: Transfusion Support of the Hematology-Oncology Patient (CE: 1.0)


Description:

In this course, principles of platelet therapy in hematology-oncology patients will be reviewed.  Hematology-oncology patients are the one of the most heavily transfused patient populations and due to immunosuppression, these patients require specialized blood components.  The types and rationale for use of specialized blood products is discussed in the presentation.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Outline important principles for platelet therapies used with oncology patients.
  • Detail precautions to be taken with blood transfusions for hematology-oncology patients.
  • List transfusion complications that can occur with hematology-oncology patients.
