2013AM: Laboratory Quality Control Based Risk Management (CE: 1.5)

Description:

In this course, the key aspects of risk management will be reviewed, along with discussing the various types of control processes.  This course will identify CLSI document EP 23 as a resource for developing a laboratory quality control (QC) plan based on risk management.  A simple point of care test is discussed to exemplify the use of risk management techniques in order to develop a quality control plan that optimizes the right controls for the lab, their devices and the patient.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define key aspects of risk management relevant to laboratories.
  • Discuss Quality Control processes and how they can be used to manage risk in the laboratory.
  • Detail each step necessary to develop a successful Quality Control Plan.
  • Outline how a Quality Control Plan would be applied in a real-world scenario for a point-of-care testing device.
