STEP 479: Case Report: Pneumococcal Meningitis in an Unvaccinated Child (CE: 0.5)


Description:

Streptococcus pneumoniae is a common causative agent of invasive bacterial infections such as otitis media, pneumonia and meningitis. Treatment may be difficult due to the rising number of antibiotic-resistant pneumococci cases, making prevention through vaccination that much more important. This article describes a case of an unvaccinated child diagnosed with acute bacterial meningitis.
