Description:
While results from certain lab tests
require only a biological specimen to gain results, spirometry testing results
require a high degree of patient understanding and cooperation. Getting results
that accurately reflect the patient performing the test comes with
understanding the essentials of spirometry. This article is part three of a
three-part series, developed to guide the medical assistant to higher-level
quality results through a better understanding of the test and the testing
process. This article discusses standards associated with testing. Part one
began in STEP 314, with part two occurring in STEP 315.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe instruction standards for a spirometry test
- Discuss when to end the FVC maneuver
- Discuss whether to have the patient sit or stand for a
spirometry test
