Description:
While results from certain lab tests
require only a biological specimen to gain results, spirometry testing results
require a high degree of patient understanding and cooperation. Getting results
that accurately reflect the patient performing the test comes with
understanding the essentials of spirometry. This article is part two of a three-part series, developed to guide the medical assistant to higher-level quality
results through a better understanding of the test and the testing process.
This article discusses the variables associated with testing. Part one began in
STEP 314, with part three continuing in STEP 316.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the F variables
- Describe the importance of entering information into the
spirometer's computer
- Describe how spirometry results are calculated
