Description:
While results from certain lab tests
require only a biological specimen to gain results, spirometry testing results
require a high degree of patient understanding and cooperation. Getting results
that accurately reflect the patient performing the test comes with
understanding the essentials of spirometry. This article is part one of a
three-part series, developed to guide the medical assistant to higher-level
quality results through a better understanding of the test and the testing
process. This article discusses the rationale for testing and presents a short
case study to help the learner determine the need for testing. Part two
continues in STEP 315, with part three continuing in STEP 316.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the causes of dyspnea
- Define ischemia
- Reflect on a case study outlining the identification of
dyspnea
