(SARS), a contagious and sometimes fatal respiratory disease, first made its
appearance in the world in Southeastern China in November 2002. In just a
matter of a few months, an Italian epidemiologist at the World Health
Organization in Vietnam discovered that it was rapidly spreading worldwide.
