Description:
This article focuses on a seven-year-old
female was admitted into the hospital with shortness of breath. At age 14
months, she was diagnosed with Neimann-Pick disease, type B. Sixteen months
prior to the present illness, the patient underwent a splenectomy due to
massive splenomegaly. Lung biopsies showed storage cells typical of
Neimann-Pick disease, and mild interstitial fibrosis. Learners are encouraged
to read the case study to determine the cause of the patient's symptoms.
