Description:
Rift Valley Fever (RVF) is a
mosquito-borne disease of man and animals caused by a three-strand-ed RNA virus
in the genus Phlebovirus in the family Bunyaviridae. The disease is named after
a 4000-mile-long valley extending from Jordan through eastern Africa to
Mozambique. This article discusses the epidemiology, etiology, and
characteristics of RVF.
